VARICOSE VEINS
Causes:
Varicose veins
are veins, which have become swollen. The
veins in the legs are most commonly affected.
You can also get varicose veins in the vaginal
opening. They generally occur later in pregnancy.
They are due to increased pressure in the
veins, combined with the action of pregnancy
hormones in relaxing the walls of blood
vessels and your increasing weight. The
condition generally improves after delivery.
Remedies
- Try
to avoid standing for too long.
- If
you do have to stand then shuffle your
feet to keep the blood circulating.
-
Don't sit cross-legged-this can affect
blood flow.
- Try
not to put on too much weight as this
increases the pressure.
- Sit
with your legs up as often as possible
to ease the discomfort.
- Try
supporting tights, which may also help
support the muscles of your feet.
-
Try sleeping with your legs higher than
the rest of your body-using pillows under
your ankle or raising the level of the
bed by placing bricks under the foot of
your bed.
- Do
exercises like walking, cycling or swimming
to regulate the circulation.
