Morning
Sickness
Morning
sickness is the most terrible thing about pregnancy.
Believe me if you are the person who doesn't
have to go through morning sickness then you
are the luckiest person on earth. If you're
feeling well and rosy, you're the envy of many,
let me assure you. Sadly morning sickness does
not only happen in the mornings. It hits you
anytime, any place and anywhere. You just can't
help it when it comes and it sometimes stays
with you till the day of delivery. Morning sickness
normally disappears when you are into your second
trimester but for some, it goes right into the
labour room with them.
The exact reason of morning sickness is not
yet known but it has been linked to the raise
in hormone levels i.e. human chorionic gonadotrophin
(HCG), which is also the hormone pregnancy test
kits detect. Unfortunately for women, there
is no medical help for morning sickness but
there are many self-help methods of reducing
the symptoms and the severity of it.
Following
are a few self-help methods, which help reduce
morning sickness.
- Eat, eat and eat.
Try eating all the time. Do not keep your
stomach empty. But that doesn't mean you eat
heavy meals. Eat little but eat all the time.
Now, this one sounds more like a bad case
of encouraging obesity but believe me it helps.
Remember pregnancy is not the time you should
be going on a diet. An apple here, a biscuit
there, some fruits, take a nap and then another
apple here and some fruits there....you get
the picture.
- Nap, nap and
nap. Take all the rest you can. Please don't
overwork yourself. There is nothing like good
sleep. Take a good nap when your other children
are sleeping. A good nap will make you feel
a lot better.
- B6 and zinc are
known to reduce nausea. It's been known that
vitamin B6 and zinc helps ease discomfort.
But make sure you check with your doctor before
taking them. Alternatively, take a banana,
raisins or hazelnuts. They are wonderful remedies
for reducing nausea.
- Avoid strong smells.
These strong smells include smell from the
kitchen, smoke and alcohol.
- For relieving
yourself of the nausea you can sip a cup of
water with squeezed lemon, lime or a piece
of ginger in it.
