CRAMPS
Causes:
Cramp
is a sudden, sharp pain, usually in your calf muscles
or feet. It is most common at nights in the last
three months. It occurs more often in hot weather
and after physical activity when the muscles are
tired. Wearing high heels, which tend to shorten
the calf muscles can also be a factor. It usually
helps if you pull your toes hard up towards your
ankle or rub the muscle hard and gently massage
it for a while.
Remedies:
- Regular
gentle feet exercise is helpful to avoid cramps.
- To
improve circulation, do ankle and leg movements
10 times each in clockwise and anti-clockwise
directions.
- Also
do not exert yourself too much by standing or
walking too long.
- Avoid
wearing high heels.
- In
hot weather, an increase in salt and calcium intake
from foods like milk, leafy green vegetables,
carrots, oranges etc, may help prevent cramps.
- Increase
your intake of potassium from food sources like
banana, vegetables, milk, whole grain, fish and
meat.
