BACKACHE
DURING PREGNANCY
Causes
During pregnancy
backaches are the most common problem faced almost
by 95 % of pregnant women. Backaches cause because
during pregnancy ligaments become softer and stretch
to prepare you for labour. This normally puts a strain
on the joints of your lower back and pelvis, which
can cause backache. As the baby grows, the hollow
in your lower back may increase and this may also
cause backache.
Remedies
- Avoid
lifting heavy articles.
- If
you do have to carry something heavy, hold it close
to your body.
- While
picking up something from the floor, bend your knees
and keep your back straight.
- Try
to work on a surface high enough to avoid bending.
- Wear
flat shoes, as these will balance your weight evenly.
- Balance
the weight between two baskets if you are carrying
shopping.
- Always
sit with your back straight and well supported.
- Use
firm mattress on your bed for preventing backaches.
- You
can also go for massages, which are quite relieving.
If
however your backache is too severe then ask your
doctor to refer you to an obstetric physiotherapist.
He/she will help you with your backache and suggest
some useful exercises.
