After graduating from Design school at SNDT University,
Mumbai she began her career as a designer for womenswear
at Shoppers Stop. In early 1996, she quit her job
and launched her signature label at Ffolio in Bangalore.
Her label started getting noticed, and she began retailing
at Melange and Ensemble in Mumbai and New Delhi.
She launched her Men's wear range in the year 1999
at a preview at Melange, which was noticed and sold
out. This encouraged me to create a new menswear line
for each successive season, and today I have begun
enjoying designing for men, far more than creating
the women's wear ranges.
Comfort is an essential aspect of her clothing. Her
clothes are clean cut, with an appreciation of the
fabric and finish being used. She believes that the
texture of the fabric is an important, and enhances
the aesthetic appeal of the garment. She refuses to
embellish her work with heavy work or embroidery as
she feels it would detract from the clothes. She has
experimented with silhouettes, and loves the language
of the bias. Clothes must enhance the personality
of the wearer, and vice versa, and her collections
are based on this dictum.
